Breathe a sigh of relief, Devils fans: it sounds like Kevin Weekes shall be a-okay.
Though Weekes was not available for comment after the game, head coach Brent Sutter downplayed the situation, assuring that the 32-year-old netminder “would be fine.”
Weekes was injured just six minutes into tonight’s preseason contest with the New York Rangers, nearly being knocked unconscious after being viciously run into by Rangers resident a-hole Sean Avery. Avery had pushed Devils defender Johnny Oduya into the goal mouth area, causing both players to tumble on top of Weekes, who awkwardly fell into the net, hitting his head on the goal post.
Staying down for several minutes, the former Ranger was eventually helped into the locker room by teammates and medical staff.
Jordan Parise finished the game for the Devils, turning aside 22 of 25 shots. New Jersey lost the game 4-3.
Weekes joins an ever-growing list of injured Devils, including Jamie Langenbrunner, Colin White, Cam Janssen and Arron Asham.
PATRICIA SAYS: As previously mentioned (oh I dunno, maybe once or twice), Sean Avery is a pile of poo. How he is continually allowed to run goalies is beyond me. Had it been Marty, Mr. Avery would have been knocked into next Tuesday…of 2532. Alas, it sounds like Weekes should be okay. I still wouldn’t rule out a concussion here, and I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him sit the rest of the preseason, which is really unfortunate.
Too bad Mr. Anger Management didn’t play. (Did I really just say that?) I’m sure we all remember this (link opens in new window). I bet Sean doesn’t though. Ha.

It must have been an accident, because our Sean Avery is a good boy. Opens the doors for strangers, feeds the homeless at soup kitchens and endlessly watches Taxi Driver to build character!

Yeah.. i was wondering why he was on the 2nd line also. God i hate that man with a passion. haha. David Clarkson should have beaten the crap out of him last night.

No one could get to Avery last night, Oduya tried, Marshall tried, and every time the Ref’s jumped in to protect Him. Luckily the season is long and the Guys on the Dev’s also have long memories. I can guarantee White was watching last nights Game with His good eye, Avery will take a run at Marty sooner or later and He will be dealt with. so it looks like 10 to 14 games for White, 2 months for Langs,and what ever indefinitly means for Cam, at least Weeks is ok.2 months without Jamie is going to hurt,does anyone know what is wrong with Asham?

How long does it take a seperated shoulder to heal? Couple of weeks, post-surgery? Cam may be back if not for the first regular season game at the Garden, then at least the home game on November 14th. Though honestly, I’m not sure Cam’s the one to put Avery in his place. I’d put the odds at approximately the following (note that I’m not a professional bookmaker and I made these numbers up as I went along):
