Enforcer!According to various reports, the New Jersey Devils have claimed enforcer Sheldon Brookbank off of waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The 26-year-old defender appeared in three games with the Nashville Predators last season, registering one assist and 12 penalty minutes. He was originally signed by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 2003.

PATRICIA SAYS: Another big guy for the Devils — weighing in at a solid 215, the 6’2″ defender has fought his way through the ranks…literally. Dude is a thug, more or less. Well, not really. He’s an enforcer. That’s about it. With Cam out for an indefinite period of time, the Devils need a guy like Brookbank in the lineup. Sure, they have big guys and guys who will fight, but no one who will really throw down like Sheldon will. Don’t expect anything else out of him, though.

Who? He’ll play against the divisional rivals. I mean do we really need a fighter? We already have Clarkson, Asham and Ruppy. Then when Cam gets back, that will at least be 4 guys. I like to see a defensemen with size, but to lose a defensemen for 5 min regularly doesn’t fit well with me.

I don’t know enough about this Guy to comment much, I guess The powers that be are really trying to make the Dev’s hard to play against and protect the smaller Guy’s, I will wait and see to make an opinion if this signing is a good call or not.

hopefully he can help out with blueline production as well as fighting, last years stats with Milwaukee was pretty impressive with 15 goals, 38 assists and 176 PMs…

Its nice to pick up another enforcer while Cam is out, but the fact he is a defenseman worries me. I’d much rather have a forward who fights than a defenseman only because of the minutes that are lost and how the rest of the guys have to pick up the extra minutes. I wonder if he can play any wing?

At least he seems to be a decent defenseman. He was AHL – First All-Star Team last year as well as winning the Eddie Shore Trophy (Oustanding Defeseman).

    Solid depth move nonetheless.

He doesn’t have the whole traditional hockey goon look going on like Cam does…

Brian: Great find about the Eddie Shore Trophy. I’m now actually starting to warm up to this guy. I was actually worried they just found some douche that can’t skate and will log 3 min of ice time and spend more time in the box. Now I’m actually interested in seeing what this kid can do. Sounds like he can score as well.

NJDevil: He seems like a solid 6/7 guy. I’m reading right from his TSN scouting report and one of the knocks on his game is his skating, however, they say he plays a simple game and isn’t a big risks when he is on the ice. Sounds promising.

I wonder if he will stick with the big team. If not they could try to send him to Lowell, but he would once again go on waivers, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Blue Jackets try to re-claim him.
