9:28 PM ET: And that’s all she wrote! Devils win 4-1. Woo!
9:24 PM ET: Clarkson goads Allen into taking a slashing penalty. Davey has been getting under the lad’s skin all game long. I love it.
9:21 PM ET: Asham versus Horton! ATTABOY ASHAM! Standing up for his fallen teammate. WHAT A GUY!
Jeez, Asham was still getting a few good shots in from his knees. Wow! Edge: Horton.
9:21 PM ET: Pando seems okay. Scary for a second there. He was checked awkwardly into the boards by Nathan Horton, who probably should have been penalized on the play. Lame.
9:19 PM ET: Uh oh! Pandolfo is down. Looks like he got checked awkwardly into the boards, he’s stinging right now.
9:18 PM ET: I gotta say, Mottau has had a damn solid game. One of our best defenseman of the night.
9:16 PM ET: Rachunek is a butt. Florida power play.
9:12 PM ET: Devils goal by…Mike Mottau? What the heck??? Mottau fires a wrister from the blue line, off the pipe and in. First career NHL goal for Mikey, attaboy! 4-1 Devils.
9:10 PM ET: Man, Asham sure hustles. He’s had a heckuva game, I’m loving him more and more.
9:09 PM ET: We’re about halfway through the third. Somewhat a quiet period so far. Weekes is amazing, though.
9:04 PM ET: WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKES! Andy Greene flubs the puck, Weekes makes a terrific save, Greene blocks the rebound. MAN!
9:00 PM ET: Solid defense play by Martin and Oduya to break up the Panthers’ chance.
8:58 PM ET: Rupp is back on the ice, good as new.
8:57 PM ET: Yikes! Weekes with a quick glove save. Had he not been paying attention, it would easily be 3-2. Boy did he snap that glove in the air with lightning force!
8:55 PM ET: Start of the third.
8:38 PM ET: And we’re done with two. Solid period by the Devils. Weekesie didn’t have to do much work, thank goodness. Defense really clamped down and the offense went to town on Vokoun and co. We’re up 3-1 going into the third.
8:34 PM ET: ANDY GREENE! WHAT A GOAL! Had such a bad angle, grabs the rebound and banks the puck off of Vokoun and into the net. What a goal. What a goal. 3-1 Devils.
8:33 PM ET: Redemption. Devils power play, Florida takes a bench minor for too many men on the ice. Tee-hee.
8:31 PM ET: Whoa. Rupp just got wrecked in the face by Salei’s stick. How the heck did the ref not see that? Lame. Looks like Rupp got opened up, he’s off the ice to get looked at. Hope he’s okay.
8:30 PM ET: Nice play by Rachunek to deny Olesz of a scoring chance, clamping down on the stick. Whew.
8:26 PM ET: Pretty nice looking power play…Devils come quite close! The cycle is going, Panthers are scrambling right now.
8:23 PM ET: Another Panther penalty. McLean takes a little hook at Madden, and he’s off for two. Don’t mess with Mad Dog.
8:21 PM ET: I can safely say that the boys have really buckled down this period. After giving up 3589538 shots in the first, they have so far surrendered a measly three shots to the Panthers, halfway through the second. Whew.
8:20 PM ET: Darn. Devils nearly had a 3-on-1 shorthanded chance, broken up last minute though.
8:19 PM ET: Pandolfo is a penalty-taking machine this season! Florida power play.
8:09 PM ET: Ohhh! Upon further review, the puck ricocheted off Mezei and went into the net. I love it.
8:07 PM ET: *cue Nelson laugh* HA-HA! Massive defensive breakdown after Vokoun misses the puck trying to play it behind the net, Devils take advantage of the turnover and Madden throws the puck in a wide open net for the pee-pee goal. Silly Panthers. 2-1 Devils.
8:05 PM ET: Devils power play, yay! Delay of game on Mr. Dvorak. Silly Czech.
8:02 PM ET: Start of the second. Let’s go Red ‘n Black!
7:44 PM ET: Thankfully, the first period is over. I am quite sure that Mr. Kevin Weekes will relish the fifteen-to-seventeen minutes of rest he so very much deserves. I don’t know how the boys got out of that period merely tied at one.
7:36 PM ET: Karel Rachunek Andy Greene, that is not how to play defense. No hooks thankyouverymuch. Another Florida pee-pee.
JOE SAYS: I’m noticing that the forecheck is so aggressive that it’s actually causing odd man rushes against us. Boo.
7:33 PM ET: Oh! Zajac with a nice little dipsey-doodle. Too bad he didn’t hit the net.
7:29 PM ET: I wonder if Weekes is rethinking signing with the Devils? Poor fella is being absolutely left out to DRY! Florida has had, oh I dunno, about nine million great chances already. Weekes has been unreal.
JOSH SAYS: Our defense sucks.
7:28 PM ET: OKAY WE GET THE POINT!!! GOODNESS PLAY SOME DEFENSE YOU SONS-A-BITCHES!
7:28 PM ET: I fear quite a long season if this defense does not improve. Blah.
7:26 PM ET: Ho-boy, Weekes had no shot on that laser by Murphy. Tied at one now. Panthers still on the power play.
7:25 PM ET: Lovely, why don’t we all take penalties while we’re at it? Oh-crap-ya in the box now. Two-man advantage for the Panthers.
7:24 PM ET: …and not take a penalty, too. Thanks, Martin. Pee-pee now over, courtesy of #7.
7:24 PM ET: Oh Paulie, you might want to keep the puck in the zone…
7:22 PM ET: Mezei in the box, Devils pee-pee.
7:18 PM ET: ANOTHER grand save by Weekes. This is fun and all, kids, but uh, how about some defense?
7:17 PM ET: What a save by Weekes on Nathan Horton! The lad looks quite good already, I’m feelin’ it.
7:14 PM ET: JOHN MADDEN! 1-0 DEVILS! 3-on-1 PLAY! WHAT THE HELL?!?!?! Jay Pandolfo and John Madden should never be separated again. I’m loving the Asham signing even more right now — he made a helluva pass to Madden on the play.
7:12 PM ET: And we’re like, two seconds into the game and Oduya effs up. Nice. Good save by Weekes to start the game.
7:10 PM ET: Here we go folks. Weekesie with his first career start as a Devil…this is a big one!
6:58 PM ET: Alright folks. We’re ready for another rousing night of live-capping goodness, are you?

This is F’ed up. I live in Essex county and have Comcast. Was told to go to NYoverflow.com and that will tell me which channel the game is on. They said 18. But for some reason I’m getting a Sabres pregame show.
PLEASE HELP

NJ Devil, I’m looking at the list here I’m going to list all of the North Jersey channels on the list, 60, 16,6, 20,8,18, see if any of these work.
Shari on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:31 pm
Jesus H how about a little help for poor Weeksie, He’s completely under siege, He’s looking good though, #27 just saved a goal (not sure who all of the new numbered Guy’s are yet) Mottau?
Shari on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:33 pm
Some of these Dev’s don’t even need a shower, is Elias even playing tonight?
MIKE HARRISON on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:34 pm
Dont bother finding the game on TV, we are getting pounded. The entire first period is being played in our zone. I dont like our team right now.
Ben on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:37 pm
I agree about the defense looking weak. Isn’t Markov still available? Pick his ass up already! Oduya is going to be the death of me.
Kelly on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:38 pm
Was that Vishnevski that crushed that guy along the benches?
NJDevil on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:40 pm
Thanks, but Comcast f’in blows. I pay a fortune to them each month and they don’t carry FSN2. Amazing.
They have a free Center Ice package going until Tuesday, and the Devils are on 776. But its not coming in, screen is totally black. F**K
Shari on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:41 pm
Whitey would play better D with one eye.
Don on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:42 pm
hey njdevil. i’m having the same problem. sabres game is on ch. 18 and the islanders on ch. 99. i’m annoyed with comcast.
Iggy on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:45 pm
Zubrus with a nice almost-goal. He’s clearly been playing with Elias.
Shari on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 6:50 pm
Avery took an elbow to the head, oh poor baby. Sorry NJ Devil, I tried to help.
PatD on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 7:18 pm
Thank you SO much for covering the game, this is all I have since Comcast are clearly Islanders fans.
Aaron on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 7:22 pm
There goes the Byng trophy.
John Fischer on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 7:37 pm
I just want to point out that Greene’s goal doesn’t happen if it wasn’t for Elias’ initial move and shot. It also doesn’t happen if Florida was playing with some sense (too many men on the ice? WHAT?)
Thank you.
Hal Stern on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 7:37 pm
i’m listening to the game via nhl.com’s feed of 660AM and reading patricia’s live cap, and it’s far better than TV coverage!
meanwhile if anyone is following the rangers game, gomez doesn’t even have a SHOT tonight. hahahahahahahahahahahaha maybe he could buy a new stick with his $10M.
Shari on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 7:48 pm
Oh this is cool Patty really has His feet moving now, if He gets comfy and gets a groove with some linemates look out. Pando is quite the hooligan with the Penalties, there goes His bing. Yeay finally Maddog is back. Is it just Me or is Racunik (sp?) not too bad? Gio is a little beast. Loving Asham.
Aaron on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 8:15 pm
I’ve been scouring the Internet for a pronunciation of Mottau’s last name, dreading the idea of having a Devil who’s name is pronounced “MAH-toe”. Too many bad memories and a-holes.
I guess it’s “MO-tOW”
MIKE HARRISON on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 8:16 pm
This game is sort of the opposite of the Tampa game, tonight we were outplayed early, then took over 2nd / 3rd periods. I’m liking the team a little better now.
Shari on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 8:25 pm
That hit on Pando was scary, ATTA BOY ASHAM.
Shari on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 8:32 pm
If they play like they did in the last 2 periods every game all will be well. Thanks for the Re cap Patricia that was fun.
Patricia Greuter on Sat, 6th Oct 2007 10:27 pm
Hope everyone enjoyed the live-cap, we’ll be here all season! (=
NJDevil on Sun, 7th Oct 2007 8:27 am
Patricia,
Thanks for the live game recap. Had to listen to the game on the radio, which isn’t too bad, but when the Islanders are on 4 channels, yes 4 on Comacast, (18, 99, 100, 206) I was a little pissed. But this was saving grace. Got to see the Asham fight on Hockeyfights.com and highlights were still pretty good.
Atleast I’ll be able to watch the game on Monday. Its at 3pm.
One thing I’m a little concerned about is our D. Could Matvachuk play and make an impact? What about this new kid, Brookbank? Seems like everyone is ragging Johnny O. ANybody else F’ing up?
Joe Bechtel on Sun, 7th Oct 2007 11:20 am
NJDevil –
I’m a little worried about the D as well, but not so much as I was in Tampa. Mottau seems to be coming together nicely, made a great diving block to save a goal. I do believe Matvichuk would be a plus if Sutter would just put him in the lineup.
Oduya has been bad enough that should the Devils scratch him, there’s nowhere to go but up.
