The Devils will have some yard-work to take care of tonight, as they try to rake up the Maple Leafs (HA! …I kill me) and get November off to a winning start. For the Devils, a game against Toronto is as much fun as a Chris Simon high stick, as the Leafs are 7-1-1 in their last nine meetings between the two teams, and have bagged at least one point in their last seven trips to the Garden State (Granted, they were all in CAA). Tonight’s match-up is important to the Devils for a number of reasons — one of which being that they are the only Atlantic Division team aside from Philadelphia that will see action tonight. A win for New Jersey and they will square off against the Rangers tomorrow night @ MSG with a chance to leapfrog them in the Atlantic Division.
Ah, those early-season Division races…they’re a lot more important than they seem! Just ask Toronto circa April, 2007. Oh snap!
One thing I must say is that I will go ravenously insane if I see the lines shuffled up again tonight. For once, everyone seems comfortable and confident with themselves and their current linemates, so leave a good thing alone!! Brodeur, coming off his best performance of the season, will be the gatekeeper tonight for Black ‘n Red. You never can tell who will be in net for the Leafs these days. My guess will go to Raycroft (although Felix Potvin is a possibility at this point) as he has a little more experience against the Devils opposed to Toskala who spent most of his NHL career in the Western Conference with San Jose.
Jay Pandolfo, fresh off his first NHL hat-trick, will look to continue his scoring ways as will line-mate John Madden.
SIDEBAR: There’s something funny about Pandolfo’s 5 goals vs. Gomez’s 2.
It’s been nice to see Pando getting opportunities to put the puck in the net, rather than always having to keep it out of his own. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jay’s defensive game, but it’s nice to see that he really is a complete player. Olli Malmivaara will likely play in his second NHL game tonight, and Slingshot Oduya — who’s been as useful as a mesh condom — continues to baffle experts by keeping his roster spot as well. No word on Karel Rachunek’s return just yet.
Well, Devils/Leafs for the first time from The Rock. Disable the screen-saver and turn on the pop-up blocker — the Live Cap will be heavier than Dan Boyle’s homeowners insurance payments. Look for special reports as both myself and Patricia will be reporting live from The Rock!
It may be Hockey Night In Canada, but the only thing you need here is 2 Man Advantage!
