Grant Marshall re-signed…?

Good enough for a repost. In news coming straight out of the “WTF Department,” NHLPA.com is reporting that Grant Marshall is under contract with the New Jersey Devils for the 2007-08 season.

Uh, okay?

Marshall is slated to make $475,000 next season.

The 34-year-old winger spent all of last season with the Baby Devils, tallying eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 59 games.

PATRICIA SAYS: Uh…huh? I hope this is a two-way contract at the least. Either Erik Rasmussen won’t be retained, or Lou merely signed Marshy out of pity. Don’t get me wrong, I am without-a-damn-doubt more than grateful for Marsh’s contributions, but dude is washed up now. He ain’t no NHL player, folks. At least, not anymore.

DEVILS SIGN VISHNEVSKI

Welcome to the family! The New Jersey Devils continue to stockpile defensemen, signing blueliner Vitaly Vishnevski to a three-year contract which will pay him $1.4-million next season.

He will receive $2-million in each of the following two seasons.

Vishnevski split last season between the Atlanta Thrashers and Nashville Predators, appearing in 67 games and posting three goals and ten assists for 13 points.

The 27-year-old Ukrainian was originally selected fifth overall in the 1998 Entry Draft.

DEVILS SIGN KEVIN WEEKES

Welcome to the neighborhood!____

The New Jersey Devils have signed goaltender Kevin Weekes to a 2-year, $1.375-million contract, 2MA has learned.

Weekes will earn about $700,000 a season.

In 14 games with the New York Rangers last season, Weekes, 32, went 4-6-2 with a 3.39 goals against average.

He sat out the remaining two months of the season with a leg injury.

DEVILS INK ZUBRUS

Cha-ching!_____

The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Dainius Zubrus to a 6-year-deal worth $20.4-million, 2MA has learned.

He will earn an average of $3.4-million a season.

Zubrus split last season with the Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres, registering 24 goals and 36 assists for 60 points.

Best of yet, the 6’4″ 225 pound Lithuanian plays at center, effectively replacing recently departed Scott Gomez.

Oh, and he’s 29.

DEVILS SIGN KAREL RACHUNEK

Meet Karel.Louie Lams attempted to make a splash in the Free Agency market today.

Well, maybe more of pitter-patter.

In a signing that hopefully will not be the replacement of Brian Rafalski, Mr. Lamoriello signed blueliner Karel Rachunek away from the New York Rangers, giving the Czech d-man a $1.5-million, one-year deal.

In 66 games with the Rangers last season, the 27-year-old registered six goals and 20 assists for 26 points and skated at a minus-nine.

Dear Lord please let Rad Brad re-sign with the team…

Alas…

HIYO!

THE NEW YORK RANGERS HAVE SIGNED SCOTT GOMEZ TO A $51.5-MILLION, 7-YEAR CONTRACT
NYR SIGNS CHRIS DRURY 5-YEARS AT $7-MILLION A SEASON

PATRICIA SAYS: What a slap in the face to each and every Devils fan alike. Granted, most of us kind of didn’t want Gomez on the team anymore after his crap-tastic regular season, but his not-so-crap-tastic playoffs kind of sweetened that bitter taste left in our mouthes. I’m sure Ranger fans are thinking they have screwed us once again, but may I remind you kind folk, there is the tale of a Mr. Robert Holik.

Alas, I will not lie — the Rangers got a heckuva lot better today and the Devils look like black and red swiss cheese right now. Ouch.

How sad this actually came true...
____

THE DETROIT RED WINGS HAVE SIGNED DEFENSEMAN BRIAN RAFALSKI TO A FIVE YEAR, $30-MILLION CONTRACT.

PATRICIA SAYS: Well now, doesn’t this suck? Now I’m kind of kicking myself in the butt for pleading Rafalski to leave the team all season long. Oops.

’tis official: Viuhkola a Devil

...what goes around?Indeed, it’s true. Though we’ve known for a while now, it’s always nice to have media confirmation, eh? So, yes, Jari Coca-Cola has officially signed with the boys. See ya Jimmy Dowd, we shall miss you.

In other Devils news, the Andy Greene signing was also made official, which, again, is also very nice because, well, he took a paycut to stay with the team. That’s just purely awesome.

Isn't he beautiful? And to round out the signings, Louie Lams also tendered a contract to Matthew Corrente, New Jersey’s first-round choice in 2006. A blueline mainstay at only 19 years old to boot, Corrente posted three goals and 23 assists for 26 points in 43 games for the OHL’s Mississauga Ice Dogs and Saginaw Spirit.

Let us not forget, though, of Mr. Corrente’s colored past, as the troubled young lad pled guilty to assault and battery after being involved in a mysterious event that the Spirit only refer to as “breaking the team rules.” Word on the street, though, is that Corrente, along with four teammates may have been involved with a 15-year-old girl in some way or another. Oh yeah. Not good.

Alas, July 1st ain’t too far away now…I’m getting nervous folks. Quite nervous.

Andy Greene rocks

Mmm...artificial sweeteners...____

Welp, Andy Greene is awesome.

We already knew that though, right?

Okay, I admit I have been somewhat up and down with him this past season, begging for his return to the Devils lineup and then shunning him to the dog house, but overall I really like Mr. Greene.

And it’s a good thing too, as Louie Lams has signed Andy to a two-year, $1.2 million contract.

That’s cheap as poo, and we like cheap as poo because we need all the money we can get right now!
Thanks Andy, it’s nice to see you enjoy the Kool-Aid. Tell your bud Scott Gomez to take a sip, see if he enjoys it.

…who are we kidding, Gomez is probably allergic to gosh darn Kool-Aid.

Bastard.

Jari to the rescue?

UPDATE: The New Jersey Devils have indeed signed Viuhkola to a one-year two-way contract.

Apparently the Devils are about to sign Finnish star Jari Viuhkola.

Yeah, no clue how to pronounce that name…

But, he seems to be a viable checking line center, which is always nice I reckon as we may kinda need one with Jimmy Dowd likely not being retained. Sorry Dowd.

Mr. Viuhkola, 27, is an original draft choice of Chicago (boo), but his career never really broke any NHL sound waves (double boo.) Sounds lovely so far, eh?

Oh Jari, I’m not hatin’ on you. You do have your upside, right?

Well, uh, he’s certainly not a goal scorer (aka not a Gomez replacement), but he seems to be a John Madden type in heart, a Sergei Brylin type in work ethic, and a Cam Janssen type in scoring. Mix them all together and you might just get a halfway decent player.

I certainly hope so…I certainly hope so.

Admit it, you totally watched the OC.

Post Says: Brie-Cheese Stayin’

So good!Mark Everson is reporting that Sergei Brylin’s option will indeed be picked up by the Devils, but, well, Mark Everson kinda sucks so we’ll just have to assume that this is hearsay until further confirmed.

I know, I know, why even report it if there isn’t any confirmation?

Well, there really isn’t much else to report about, sadly enough. I’m still quite bummed that we’re in the midst of such a looooooong offseason, but such is life.

I suppose having Brylin around for another year ain’t such a bad thing, provided he isn’t called upon for any unrealistic duties here. I’m sorry, but Brylin should merely be a utility man at this point — not some star center that he never was or will be, okay? That’s not to say I don’t like Sergei at all, because I really do, but let’s be honest here. Dude ain’t getting any younger. If I had my say, he’d fall into a Sergei Nemchinov type of role…but, well, being somewhat weak in depth at center and with our scoring forwards in general, it kind of throws a huge wrench into that whole plan, now doesn’t it?

Oh, and apparently Everson has the inside scoop on Paul Martin, Cam Janssen, Johnny Oduya, and Zach Parise, proclaiming that each player will receive qualifying offers. There certainly is the possibility that Martin and Parise will be difficult to easily retain…but then again, when is something that is difficult easy in the first place, right?

Yeah…

So, ladies and gents, to sum up, we really don’t know anything other than what Everson reports, and if his brilliant journalistic capabilities of past are any indication, this all likely means that Paul Martin has died, Sergei Brylin will sign with the New York Rangers, and Cam Janssen will win the Hart Trophy.

Yup.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
TUOMAS PIHLMAN HAS LEFT THE BUILDING
…or, well, the organization, at least. Yes, the man with the silly spelling of what really should be “Thomas” has decided to return home to his native Finland to give European hockey another shot. The NHL was just too fast for the young lad, I fear. Alas, best wishes to Tuomas!

TRENTON DEVILS HERE WE COME! Yes, it’s true — the Trenton Titans are no more. Well, sort of. The name is gone, but the team remains. Louie Lams announced that the ECHL’s Titans will now grace the Devils name…Baby Baby Devils maybe?

AND A LITTLE SITE NEWS…

We gots a brand new DONATE button, fashioned nicely on the right side of the site. Donatations are fun and all, but better yet — you’ll be safe knowing that any donations made will go towards the betterment of my wallet…I mean…the site.

No, seriously, we’d love to have all the fancy stuffs that those other blogs have, but, well, with no money that’s kind of hard. So, in short, give us money!
