Mark Everson is reporting that Sergei Brylin’s option will indeed be picked up by the Devils, but, well, Mark Everson kinda sucks so we’ll just have to assume that this is hearsay until further confirmed.
I know, I know, why even report it if there isn’t any confirmation?
Well, there really isn’t much else to report about, sadly enough. I’m still quite bummed that we’re in the midst of such a looooooong offseason, but such is life.
I suppose having Brylin around for another year ain’t such a bad thing, provided he isn’t called upon for any unrealistic duties here. I’m sorry, but Brylin should merely be a utility man at this point — not some star center that he never was or will be, okay? That’s not to say I don’t like Sergei at all, because I really do, but let’s be honest here. Dude ain’t getting any younger. If I had my say, he’d fall into a Sergei Nemchinov type of role…but, well, being somewhat weak in depth at center and with our scoring forwards in general, it kind of throws a huge wrench into that whole plan, now doesn’t it?
Oh, and apparently Everson has the inside scoop on Paul Martin, Cam Janssen, Johnny Oduya, and Zach Parise, proclaiming that each player will receive qualifying offers. There certainly is the possibility that Martin and Parise will be difficult to easily retain…but then again, when is something that is difficult easy in the first place, right?
Yeah…
So, ladies and gents, to sum up, we really don’t know anything other than what Everson reports, and if his brilliant journalistic capabilities of past are any indication, this all likely means that Paul Martin has died, Sergei Brylin will sign with the New York Rangers, and Cam Janssen will win the Hart Trophy.
Yup.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
TUOMAS PIHLMAN HAS LEFT THE BUILDING…or, well, the organization, at least. Yes, the man with the silly spelling of what really should be “Thomas” has decided to return home to his native Finland to give European hockey another shot. The NHL was just too fast for the young lad, I fear. Alas, best wishes to Tuomas!
TRENTON DEVILS HERE WE COME! Yes, it’s true — the Trenton Titans are no more. Well, sort of. The name is gone, but the team remains. Louie Lams announced that the ECHL’s Titans will now grace the Devils name…Baby Baby Devils maybe?
AND A LITTLE SITE NEWS…
We gots a brand new DONATE button, fashioned nicely on the right side of the site. Donatations are fun and all, but better yet — you’ll be safe knowing that any donations made will go towards the betterment of my wallet…I mean…the site.
No, seriously, we’d love to have all the fancy stuffs that those other blogs have, but, well, with no money that’s kind of hard. So, in short, give us money!

Maybe we can turn all those South Jersey Flyer fans into Devils fans now…..

the reason brylin is (if it’s true) coming up to the first line is cause elias is wack in the captains spot, and even though i highly doubt him being stripped of the C, we need Brylin up there to start takin charge and giving everyone that ugly gremlin look he makes when he’s all pissed off. I mean, It’ll kind be like how Jagr’s the captain but he scores the goals, meanwhile Shannahan’s there to lead and everything. (I’m not saying we are ANYTHING like the wack ass ranger’s, just making a juxtaposition) Although i don’t see him being the starting center, that does kinda suck.

So Brylin will continue his role as the Swiss Army Winger for the Devils. It’s a smart move. Although Brylin showed some signs of decline during the past season, he also showed some flashes of brilliance. (See: SportsCenter’s Top 10) Kinda like: “dude, if your bi-polar just come out with it, they have pills these days!”
People may be so-so about Sarge being retained but I won’t hesitate to say that Devils hockey would be somewhat of an IFC horror-flick without #18 in the trenches.

I really didn’t see Lou not resigning Sarge, He’s an all purpose player, and He will play any minutes any line and do whatever else is asked of Him, He knows the system, and is a Team player, He also seems to have put a little nasty in His game the past couple of seasons, and Lou Loves players with a strong work ethic, and Sarge definalely has that. Marty said that Sarge can always help the Team and never hurts it.

This has nothing to do with Brylin or the Dev’s but I have to put this out there, I was watching Buff vs Otta yesterday, do or die here, and they go to OT and NBC ditches the game for a show about a dead race horse,(granted OLN picked up the OT)but not for nothing but this could have just as easily been a Dev’s eastern conf finals game, so much for Hockey love here, that was just as bad as last years draft being cut off on OLN for bronco riding, for those fan’s of Ott or Buff that don’t get OLN they missed the Ot round of yesterdays game. Bettmann should be so pleased.

That was absolutely a poor call by NBC. I guess if it were the actual race maybe I’dunderstand but to pull out of the game for the pre-race crap is rediculous. I hope Betteman is furious over this. I was busy so I didn’t get to really watch the game, did they at least notify the viewers it was switching over to Vs ???

Think about the people who DVR’ed the game — they completely missed the end of the game. If I were a fan of either team, I’d be livid.
Sucks for those who don’t even have Versus as well.
It’s a lame move, but can we honestly be surprised here?
