I have to say this day is a little bitter. I know, I know get over it already but watching Niedermayer lift that Cup last night was the last thing I wanted to do. It is just a little aggrevating that in the two years since he left New Jersey, he’s been to a Conference Finals and in his second season, wins the big prize. Even though the boys have put together two decent seasons since his departure, lets be realists when we say we aren’t that close to the big prize. On top of all that I had to watch Chris Pronger also raise the Cup.
Excuse me while I look for the closest toilet.
But I don’t want to take anything away from Scotty. He’s an incredible player and a player that can leave a championship calibre team and lead another team in the same direction, as Captain, deserves a lot of praise. I do believe Anaheim realized what they were getting back on August 4, 2005 and again realized it last night. I’m sure Paul Kariya wishes he stuck around now!
Anaheim is an amazing team and while their free agent list is a little large, I do think they should be right in the thick of things next season too.
I am starting to believe that there might be something to the Canadian Curse (although I wish they would name it something else as I don’t believe in so called “curses.”) Of the three teams that recently made it to the Finals, I thought Ottawa had the strongest chance but in the end made the weakest showing.
Since the moment the Devils lost to the Senators I wanted the Stanley Cup Finals to be over because I want to get on with answering our off-season questions. We are finally there and I guess seeing Scotty raise the cup could have been a little worse, he could have done it against New Jersey.
Congratulations Anaheim on hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup!!

Every team He goes to strikes gold from world JR, World cup, olympics,Norris, now 4 cups and a Conn Smythe. It was bitter sweet watching Him win, and I will always wish He was still a Devil and Have a hard time seeing Him in another uni, but He took less money to play with His bro and get Him His cup so I can’t fault Him for that, Lou had the chance to sign Rob when He was up for UFA but He dragged his feet because He was a bit pricey then the Ducks grabbed Him and the rest is history. I won’t hold My breath but maybe now that He got His brother the cup He will wind down His career some day back in NJ,and for the Love of GOD shave off the gray beard.

Trade in Southern Cal for Jersey??? Highly doubt it. I did have a joke in my post about needing Just For Men Sideburns, Beard and Mustache but I took it out. Should have left it in!!

Dont’ forget that the Cup is officially getting Jiggy with it. When picking the team I was going to cheer for, thinking of Giguere winning a cup overruled any good feelings I had for the Nieders and Selanne as well as the bitter feeling of cheering for the Senators. DAMNIT!

Just imagine if Lou could have gotten Rob from Anaheim (witch he tried but the deal fell apart). Scotty would have stayed and the devs would have been much better defensively….I am just glad the Giguere did not win the Conn Smythe.

yeah i agree w/you jason, i was gonna have an anurism if giguere got that conn smythe. i remember back when we played them in 03 and he started sucking and the press and everyone called him a “fluke” and he got so sour about it and was all like “we’re not just a fluke! we deserve to be here as much as anyone else” all about to cry and shit, damn that was awesome. yeah i heard that lou tried to grab rob neidermeier and it just wasn’t able to go down unfortunately. i was not happy with the 2 teams in the finals, i really dont like giguere and to hell with emery but it was nice seeing scotty lift that conn smythe. is it just me or did he have this look on his face like he felt strongly out of place when they won? i swear he looked like he felt very awkward about it.

He looked like the cup was a hot potato and He couldn’t wait to get rid of it,and He didn’t know what to make of getting the cup first since every time He had won it before Capt’n Crunch always got it first and handed it out so. He didn’t seem to know what to make of now being the top dog. He is a low key Guy and looked uncomfortable with all of the fuss over Him. That was the impression that I got out of it.

He did seem a little uncomfortable with getting the Cup first. Maybe he should come back and start getting it second again.

He looked like winning the cup was an every day event (granted 4 times is more than any active player). You could read his thoughts, which were “OK, I got the cup again. Let the rest of the team enjoy it because I won’t” Everyone but him had a huge smile. He just didn’t care.

I think it was more the fact that he knew he was going to hand it off to his brother and when it comes to passing the cup, seniority usually dictates when you get the cup and pronger / selanne should have touched it first. Look at Colorado, didn’t Sakic pass it to Bourque right away?? I dont really know since I left the bar once the clock hit 00
June 9th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
yeah sakic held the cup for like a whole 2 seconds and let bourque have all the glory. i sure do remember that disapointment.

Anyone think that the Neidermayer fiasco is partly the reason why the Devils have so many younger brothers in the farm system right now? Just speculatin’…

WIthout a doubt the handoff was what he was focusing on, but when he got the Smythe as well, he smiled and was more content than excited. He just lacked passion and he should’ve had a huge grin on his face knowing he’d pass it off to his brother. If I were in his situation, I wouldn’t be able to stop smiling as I gave it to him.

hey did anyone hear something about the league adding teams to kansas city and vegas? i really hope that’s not true, i want less teams than we have now.
June 11th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Pahlsson was robbed of the Smythe…sorry but Niedermayer didn’t deserve it period…there were at least 2 better Ducks more deserving. Pahlsson, Rob Niedermayer, and last but not least Pronger (his suspensions motivated the Ducks).

i dont know. i guess if it were really awarded to the mvp of the play-offs (which i dont believe it usually really is) then i would say neidermayer probably didnt shine the most out there (although he did play as awesome as he cuold). but im pretty sure he got it for the obvious reason of him going to the ducks and winning them a cup, straight up. i mean, i really dont believe they would have the cup if he wasnt on the team. i mean you honestly think that he didnt contribute everything he knew about east coast play into their gameplan? he was captain for a reason, everyone listened to his coaching (probably even the coaches) and he said if you do this, we can win, and they did. if he wasnt gonna win it then weak ass gigeure would have gotten it and that’s the last thing i wanna see.
