From the official Devils site (link opens in new window):
“The Devils announced today that forward Zach Parise has been re-signed to a new multi-year contract. No further terms of the deal were disclosed.”
EDIT: TSN is reporting Zach’s contract to be 4 years, 12.5 million. Nice.

Oh thank you God. Now let’s get to work on Mr. Paul Martin, eh?

4 Years at 12.5 mil

Where’d ya hear that? (Nevermind, just found it, thanks!)

Sweet deal! Somebody has certainly been drinking their Kool-Aid.

oh hell yes!!!
August 1st, 2007 at 5:58 pm
Finally, one less worry, now let’s lock up Our #1 D-man and They all set, (Ok, did I really just write that? Martin the #1 on D?) He’s not bad, but Our #1? Oh boy.

Great deal all around. Parise gets a decent raise and the Devils save some money before they will have to pay him the real big bucks. Now onto signing Martin…

Worth every penny. Another notch….I still think there is more coming from that ‘pain in my butt’ Lou.
I know, I know…you love him.

nice…..funny thing about the whole thing was that i was never worried in the slightest bit…..even with all the lowe offers.
and btw, thanks st. louis for tampering with stevens (and helping us get zach in the process)…….may it haunt you forever. oh ya.

You are a calmer person than I, njdan. Not that I really expected Zach to be poached away the way Lowe tried to poach Vanek and Penner, but the fact that the posibility was there scared the iving hell outta me.
August 2nd, 2007 at 6:47 pm
Great signing! Now after Lou finally does sign Martin, who will he trade for to make this d-core respectable? There’s so much out there to pick from. One player I love to hate, and would just be so happy to see in a Devils jersey is Bryan McCabe.
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:56 pm
If Markov’s asking price wasn’t so high, we might of already had him. As far as trade bait, I don’t see any players signed that we would be willing to get rid of. But after the Arnott, McKay/Langenbrunner, Nieuwendyk trade, you never know what kind of sweet deal Lou can pull off.
August 3rd, 2007 at 3:17 am
i cant see it ever happening…. mccabe = 5.75M for 4 more years….large cap invesment in my opinion…….interesting thing, same agent (ian pulver) as gome$.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Does anyone know how much cap room the Devils have left? I would still like to see a first line center with Geo and Elias and keep Zack on the wing. Of course, we could use a puck carrying defenseman. To bad they don’y grow on trees.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:20 pm
Approximately 9.4 million (according to nhlnumbers.com) for the upcoming season, Randy. I think Zubrus may be that first line center, the defensive side worries me a little though. Maybe the plan is to gather all the medicore/bad defensemen left and trade them all in for one good one?

I agree about the “d”. With those rumors about
Ohlund being available for a forward, the Devs don’t seem to a fit with them, as they’re not going to give up anyone from their top 2 lines. A 3-way deal could happen. I figure Ohlund could replace Whitey as the #1 d-man. Trade Whitey to the Hawks for Tuomo Ruttu (Hawks need a veteran d-man), and then spin Ruuttu off to the Canucks for Ohlund. Ohlund would look great on the top pairing with Martin, providing both offense and defense.

Does anyone know why Lou is dragging His feet on the Martin signing?

“Does anyone know why Lou is dragging His feet on the Martin signing?”
Because Paul Martin coughs up the puck, gets beat outside and isn’t the Scott Neidermeyer type player he supposedly was going to be. I’d much rather have Greeny running point on the pp than Martin.
Personally I love Greeny and Oduya. Johnny has made some mistakes, but he’s a solid player. Maybe I’m down on Martin because so much has been expected of him and he hasn’t really shown or impressed me too much.

NJ Dev,
Here’s something to consider though. Did Neids ever really show his real stuff during his time w/us b/c of the system, other than that awesome end to ender vs. Detroit in the playoffs?
Martin did show some flashes at the end of last season with some great rushes and was backing off defenders. I agree he may not have the pure skill of Neids or a true #1, but he is a solid 2-way player and an asset, as long as Lou doesn’t blow more than $3-3.5M on him.
Oduya is a big piece of crap, he doesn’t bring anything to the table, he is a 3rd pair D-man and a replaceable part. Hopefully his debacle in the playoffs isn’t a sign for the future.
The book is still out on Greene. I think we saw flashes from him last season that he can be much better but only time will tell. He is definately a great value at his salary.
At the end of the day, I won’t be heart broken to see anyone from the back end dealt in a multi-player, multi-team deal b/c we still don’t have an impact player on D and no one to strike fear into the the hearts of players in the crease or cutting across the middle of the ice.
August 5th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
What I meant by that question is that, Lou keeps saying that He really wants Martin back and wants to make a long term deal but Martin’s agent said that they really havent talked much and aren’t even close on a deal.

Hockeybuzz reported the Devs and others maybe interested in getting the Kings 25 year old Center Mike Cammallari. MC’s two year arbitration award is due today. With 9+ mil in cap room, the Devs could afford him. Has 2MA heard anything?
August 6th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
Randy, nothing has come our way. We try to scour the internet in hopes of finding some tips, we also get notes from avid readers and other tips, but so far nothing. We’d rather not use Hockey Buzz as a source on this one, while Eklund has improved his track record this off season, I don’t feel comfortable using him at this point in time.
If anything breaks though, be sure to keep it with 2MA!
August 6th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
You are all lucky Kevin Lowe didn’t get to him first!!!!

It’s about time Patricia showed up. I was getting worried.
TDR, I read a rumor somewhere that Lowe knew there was no point in giving an offer sheet to Parise. He knew it would be matched no matter what because “Lou absolutely loves that kid”.
