Alright, I have to admit… a minute detail of last night’s loss to Boston has been bothering me. It’s not exactly the score, a goal, or even a big hit that has me a little frustrated. It’s the mysterious Delay-of-Game penalty on “Dainius Zubrus“. (note quotatio
n marks!)
You see, the penalty was not to Mr. Zubrus at all. The call, in fact, was a Delay of Game to Mr. Laser Beam himself, Kevin Weekes. You see, even with my rinky-dink 27″ analog television, I was able to see Weekes CLEARLY handle the puck in the restricted zone, at which point the official’s hand went up to signify the delayed penalty. It was obviously Dainius Zubrus who was given the honor of serving the minor penalty, as once again my P.O.S. television provided me a great shot of Brent Sutter mouthing “Zoobs!” – meaning he has chosen Zubrus to serve the minor.
Now, what really irks me is that that genius of a P.A. announcer in Boston actually announced the penalty as a minor TO Dainius Zubrus. Whether or not the official relayed the information to him that way, or he really is just a moron, is unknown to me.
Sigh. Doc and Chico were too busy rambling about something that had no relevance whatsoever to what was happening in the contest to notice.
For some reason, it really aggrivates me that the broadcasters AND the P.A. announcer were not in touch with the game at a crucial time. Hell, even NHL.com has Zubrus listed as receiving the minor on the box score, rather than serving it.
The first rule of broadcast? Pay Attention!

I, too, was astonished that Doc & Chico didn’t even so much as question why Zubrus got a delay-of-game call…If FSN had shown a replay, I’m sure someone would have caught it. But yeah, it’s amazing how those appear to be Zuby’s penalty minutes now in all official sense.
Wonder if this will jeopardize his chance at the Lady Bing…?

Yeah I like Doc and Chico….BUT the game seem’s to be secondary to food and little towns in western Canada etc. They never say much about the line up and why players aren’t playing. They need to get back to the DEVILS game, and comment on whats going on there.

Doc is one of the best play-by play guys out there, but he needs to sit on Chico a little. Chico gets to babbling about whatever comes into his head, and Doc just lets him go on and on. If you hear Doc on one of the Versus or network games with another color analyst, you’re in for a treat.

Maybe because I saw Chico play live in the 80’s, but I like Chico. Yes, he rambles a bit but that is part of his charm. Lets get to the real issue. WEEKES WAS AWEFUL!

Chico’s losing his mind a little bit. But Doc is solid.

I was at the Boston game; being in Maine it’s the closest place for me to see the Devils. I gotta tell you, I know it’s just my rose-colored glasses talking, but I just felt surrounded by stupidity. The thing that really got me going “whuh?” was, every time the Bruins scored, the PA announcer would give the details and go, “Whoo!” You might not be able to pick it up on TV without trying to hear it, but the whole crowd responds by going, “Whoo!” It
s got to be the stupidest, lamest thing I’ve ever heard out of the mouths of hockey fans. “Whoo”? Are you serious? Why don’t you just have everyone hold hands and skip around the concourse?

Chico’s insaneness is part of his charm.

Sheeps – It definately comes across on TV. I assumed it was some Ric Flair thing on the jumbotron or something.

Yea, the “Whoo!” was definitely Ric Flair. Unless some Bruins fan can tell me otherwise, it sounded exactly like him.
