Talk about Avery all you want but the man extended his hand and your small goalie turned away. 20 goals against in 5 games and he has the unmitigated gall to supposedly take the high road.
I would hate to be Marty’s wife…er sister in law tonight.
GOP RANGE…well you know
April 18th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
That sucked. Now there will be 3 eastern teams (assuming philly wins) left in the playoffs. I just threw up a little in my mouth.
April 18th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
I can understand comments on Marty’s play or the fact that the Rangers simply outplayed New Jersey, but how old these sister in law jokes are. Do not pursue a career in comedy, I fear the tomatoes will be far too overwhelming for you.
Congrats on winning the series, Rangers and fans. The better team won.
April 18th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
unfortunately, patricia is right
April 18th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Seriously, the better team won and we’re willing to be graceful about it. Marty played like crap and the rangers, including Avery, devoured him at points.
Where is the need to elevate it above hockey?
Props to Rangers and their fans. You guys put up and never shut up and have a series win to show for it. Congrats.
April 18th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
I see one silver lining and one silver lining only in losing this series, and it’s going to be the subject of a bigass post in the nearish future, whenever I can pull myself away from work long enough to get it from brain to screen…
April 18th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Josh: I’m really, REALLY interested in what you mean.
I hate to start arguing, but Marty did not play like crap; to be more precise, the defense was a paper tiger, they weren’t steady at all, and left Marty out to dry more often than not. Of all the things that went wrong and didn’t work by the Devils, Brodeur’s performance doesn’t rate. I’m sorry.
The Rangers played better, they worked harder, and…I hate typing that but it’s the truth.
April 18th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
The sister in law jokes continue to appeal -much like the Potvin mantra at the Garden.
While Ranger fans appreciate the feigned praise, I remember days ago when name calling and shots at Avery would seem all too apropos. I might level the same charge at you regarding Sean and his play.
April 19th, 2008 at 12:05 am
John, I think it was a combination of both Marty’s play and the lackluster defense. Marty never stole a game, but I’m not sure he would have needed to if the D had stepped it up. Overall, it was entirely disappointing.
April 19th, 2008 at 12:14 am
John, I think you’ll probably like it. Well, not like it, but probably have a similar viewpoint at least.
Of course, I could be wrong entirely.
April 19th, 2008 at 12:17 am
Oh and i meant Atlantic teams which sucks with 3 left in the playoffs. I can sit hear and complain about what didn’t happen but we all know what that was. Now I just don’t know who to root for the rest of the way.
April 19th, 2008 at 12:23 am
You know the scandal that’s goin on… the scandal where a certain name popped up for a $500 call girl? Hmmmm… anymore Marty jokes will be nullified by the simple fact that there’s a Rangers player who calls up call girls for $500.
At least I missed the game because of work. Oh well, next season.
April 19th, 2008 at 1:57 am
Oh well, was a good season but Kenny was right…too many of the little things weren’t done and that cost them.
Him and Chico made some of the best comments all season. You can continue to play the tight D the Devils are known for but it is harder this season because of the way the game’s played.
Play tight D but get some scoring god damnit…..scoring goals would make that D look all the much better but every bad move will be analyzed because they can’t come back.
Oh and CJ….
There’s a fine line you don’t cross and Avery did that multiple times. Talk about Marty’s marriage situation is completely uncalled for. Why shake someone’s hand that has no class to begin with.
Want to get someone off their name? It’s like the “hey batter batter!” thing….not mentioning someone’s wife.
Think Avery only held out his hand because for once he wanted to look good for the camera instead of giving it the finger.

Dear 2man crew
Thanks for the humor this year

To be honest, I don’t even know about the rangers out playing us. in each game, the devils outplayed the ranger 2 out of 3 periods. The biggest problem on our team was clearly defense, and “start of the year” turn overs in our defensive end. don’t get me wrong, the rangers have a better quality team. however, the devils had a team that easily could have won and played 75% of the time better than the rangers. the biggest difference was the rangers taking advantage of a majority of our mishaps. well, hopefully we’ll be on our way to some off season moves and make the pieces fall into place. if you look at our team, we had no business being as good as we were all season. thank god for having one of the best coaches in the league. overall, 07-08 lacked a stand out leader that could pull the team through. i love our new system, and i know it takes time for players to adapt. if nothing else, we have a good understanding of who can fall into our system and who cannot. on to next year and many more championships to come!
p.s. congrats rangers fans for advancing past the first round for the second time in how many years?
April 19th, 2008 at 10:00 am
I was going to bring up the fact the Ranger fans still chant Potvin but he beat me to it. Get some new jokes please.
I don’t have a problem what-so-ever with Marty not shaking Avery’s hand. The whole thing got personal and its been that way for a long time, it didn’t just start a week ago.
Avery is a very hated man, by many fans, by many coaches and by many players in the league. I remember during the lockout, it seemed most the league hated him. Ranger fans should remember that he’s one of those players you love when he has your jersey on but once he’s got someone else’s on, you hate him.

One more time, folks. I know you are all passionate fans, and I commend that ’til no end, but let’s keep the attacks to a minimum. NO ATTACKING YOUR FELLOW HOCKEY FAN. That’s just not how we roll here.
Thanks!

Hey Goon, you may be right but Dave Shultz shook hands, Tie Domi shook hands, Claude Lemieux shook hands, Bob Probert shook hands - I think it’s naive and somewhat hypocritical to state that you find it alright that Brodeur didn’t shake hands, yet Avery would be hated by me if he did not wear a Ranger jersey. You would hate Brodeur if he was wearing a Ranger jersey and snubbed a Devil. At least be honest; it was a classless move and many people get personal on the ice, they aren’t all relegating their comments strictly to the players.

Evidently Patricia posts a disclaimer instead of my comment so I will try again with a different name. I did not attack and maybe you might look before you leap:

CJ, your comment had not gone through yet. My post was not directed towards you. Don’t worry, I’m an equal opportunist, I would never outright censor someone’s words unless they were flaming another reader here.
Cheers,
Patricia

I agree with rico…i thought we really did out play them. Well, at least we beat the s@#$ out of em. All they did was score on practically every mistake we made. Marty just didnt come through this year. Im not sayin he didnt play good but thats all it was. We prided ourselves in capitalizing on turnovers and having marty there for us when we made ours. Just didnt happen that way.
Also just to throw it out there. I wanna sign Hossa. Hes a two way player people.
Rangers didnt deserve to win it in 5. They got man-handled like little boys. So frustrating.

Your season isn’t quite over yet, my dear…there’s a little matter of a bet to settle. Your readers should expect some scintillating poetry in the near future.
Oh, and for the record, the inlaw jokes, like the Potvin chant, are an embarrassment to many Ranger fans, including myself. It wasn’t even his sister in law, if I remember correctly. As for the handshake thing, it completely baffles me that anyone could possibly think it was a big deal. I took as more of a sign that Avery completely took Marty of his game, not as any allegedly classless act or anything.

All in all, the NYR played with respect for their opponents. Whether it was the NJD or another team, they played with respect, and the better team won .. and deserved it. The Devils simply did not play their “A” game, and as a Ranger fan, I am pretty stoked about that. These Rangers have one hell of a chance to reach the cup if they can go out their and work and demolish the other teams, as they did to the Devils. And by the way, Marty .. I just can’t believe a future hall of famer, a well-respected goalie, and known as possibily the best goalie to ever play, could possibly not shake Avery’s hand. Yes, i know that Avery can be a real jerk, but hey thats what he gets paid for, but all in all, at the end of a series EVERYONE shakes EVERYONE’S hands .. I dont care who it is, you shake their hand - so all i have to say is Marty, I lost a lot of respect for you. Finally - LETS GO RANGERS! =] Goin’ for the cup this year!!!

Hey Devils fans….I buried a Sean Avery jersey in the foundation of the Pru center when they were building it…3 home losses….hmmmmmmm

Dear 2MA readers, cool site, kudos for being honest and intelligent with your analysis of the games instead of posting “fuckin refs suck” or “fucking douchebag Avery”. I hope these two teams can meet again next year’s playoffs, maybe the Rangers can get the clean sweep
Enjoy the summer
