Mmmm, news-y tidbits.
Devils Draft Party is June 20th at 7 PM at The Rock. I personally have never been, and I am dying for something hockey-related that doesn’t feature teams I despise, so I’ll be in attendance (with 2MA stickers, of course). The Devils have the 21st overall pick in this spring’s draft, and players ranking around #21 according to various lists and things include a guy that seems almost suspiciously perfect for the Devils: Defensement John Carlson.
He’s from New Jersey (Colonia, to be exact). He’s a defenseman with a rocket from the blue line, and he’s big (6′2″, 210). Oh, and he likes the Devils, which makes him a Kool-Aid drinker already.
Other possibilities for the Devils whom I’d like to see donning the red & black in a few years include winger David Toews (brother of Jonathan…you see where I’m going with this one?), defenseman Tyler Myers (he’s 6′7″. Enough said.), and defensemen Colten Teubert, who’s also big (6′4″) and plays a shutdown style defensive game according to www.hockeysfuture.com
In other Devils news, remember Karel Rachunek? Supposedly he was one of the small village of defensemen the Devils kept around Newark last year. Yeah, well, he’s gone. Signed with some Russian team. Rumor has it he had a deal in place during the season, which resulted in his not playing hardly at all down the stretch. I think I speak for most Devils fans when I offer a great big…meh.
And finally, the Stanley Cup Finals are set, and it will be division rival Pittsburgh versus the Detroit Red Wings. Game one is Saturday night at 8 PM. I’m going on record as predicting the Wings in 5 - they take games 1 & 2 at home, Pittsburgh gets a win on home ice in game 3 but peter out in games 4 & 5.

The Draft Party is always a blast… more so if they do the stick sale again… and will be good to see how they handle this in the shiney new arena still!! I know i’ll be there!!
As for the Finals… it seems to happen every 10 years (like it did for Buffalo/Dallas)… I just DON’T CARE about this match-up… and why I keep asking… and all I can think of is:
1. These teams had it too easy getting here (12-2 Pens, 12-4 Wings)… where’s the sacrifice, heart, guts and soul that is REQUIRED to win the richest prize in pro sports?
2. I can’t get into these teams… Detroit is so blah to me… and I can’t stomach another off-season of “Look we let Niedermommy go and he won a Cup and now Rafalski too”… and I hate Osgood (I can tolerate Hasek cause he sucks now)
3. (this is a major one)… Gary Bettman wants this match-up… and anytime Bettman wants something (a lockout, the trapezoid, etc) it’s been bad for the league
4. Someone needs to knock Petr Suckora’s ass out and soon (the only team he’s been on that won in the Finals he was not conscious when it happened :p)… ok that’s just personal ire cause he quit on us back in 2002…but the only guys I like on both teams would be Malkin and Franzen and I’m not gushing about either winning a Cup
If I get any more reasons I’ll try to add them…..

June 20th? I should be there. Do we bring signs that say “PICK CARLSON” or “PICK SOMEONE SIMILAR TO CARLSON” in case Carlson goes before #21?

Seriously, though, as you can probably tell, things ain’t been right around here for awhile. I’m not sure when that changes. I offer no excuses other than the fact that everyone’s fallen from the earth, and I’m not well versed in the art of silly pictures to enhance silly haiku(s?).
I do have to request that you not pox Mr Carlson, though. We need him. Or, y’know, any sort of defense.
