I hope you guys aren’t happy about Holik coming back. I mean the guy is basically worthless and I know damn well you would have crucified him in 2002 when he left if this site were around back then. 2.5 is way to much to pay for a guy who has done NOTHING statistically since 2001.

    Markus Naslund

    I’d say we need him….and his (25g, 30a) more then Holik’s 15g, 19a.

Holik’s a good player and he’ll add some size for our team, but as a 4th/3rd line center AT BEST for our team.

We do need goal scorers right? Not more checking centers or shut down guys.

Let’s face facts here, we have enough checking guys when we should’ve added more scorers. For a team that was already in the top 5 in least goals scored i’m surprised you guys are so excited by Holik’s return.

We needed a playmaker, not a class reunion. Where’s Shawn Chambers and Neal Broten when we need them.

While Holik is old and over the hill, he does address some needs that we have on the team. He is a right handed center that can draws. He can really help on the 2nd PK unit and he’s much bigger than Brylin.

Agreed. Terrible signing for a team whose main problem last season was scoring goals. With the money they’ve committed to him, it has hamstrung the Dev’s efforts to pickup another scoring presence from FA this offseason. A slow-of-foot, aging, cro-magnon center who can’t score and is too slow to be an effective banger wasn’t what this team needed, either in the short or long term.

Well for the record, and josh can vouch for this, my reaction was not ‘welcome back bobby,’ it was ‘WTF?! Let’s bring them all back! Someone find Randy McKay! Throw bobby carpenter a jersey!’

That said, I think you guys are overreacting. Yeah we need scoring, that’s why we signed Rolston, a dependable scorer who can QB our powerplay. I see holik as a 3rd liner at this point and I think his paycheck, while a little high, is in line with that. We gave pando more than 2 mil too, and what is he? A third liner.

Holik will give us muscle and leadership, which are both nice and in my mind better than another year of Brylin.

I’m personally fine with this offensive core the way it is, plus I wanna see what Bergfors and Vrana can do.

Now if you want to get rid of a handful of medicore d-men for someone that can shore us up back there, then we’ll talk.

Naslund’s way past his prime and certainly no match for the loss of Jagr, so they can have fun with that.

Yea, I don’t think Naslund is the answer for anyone, why do you think Vancouver wasn’t that interested in him. I just fear that Holik’s salary, although at first glance looks small, will keep us from addressing problems from last season.

Heh believe me Goon, the first man I’m going to look at if things turn bad this season is straight at Caveman Von Frankenbrow.

Save a spot on the bandwagon for me, cos I won’t be sold tils I sees it.

I like the idea of Holik back on this team only because I think the familiarity will be good for both him and the guys still on this team from the ‘95 and ‘00 glory days.

It is also important to remember that Holik hasn’t played for a good team since leaving here. Not that we should expect a huge turnaround, especially on a team like the Devils, where everyone can pretty much bank on a drop in numbers, but I think he might surprise.

Josh – You’re assuming the Devils are going to be a good team…..

Well Patricia can sleep well at night…

New Jersey Devils sign G Scott Clemmensen to a one-year contract.
