Devils Home Opener Announced - Countdown Begins Now!
Posted by Josh Burnett under Notes Notes Notes! , Summertime!Start up your countdown calendars, folks. We’re exactly 85 days away from the Devils home opener 2008-09.
It’s been confirmed that the Devils will open play next season with a division matchup against the New York Islanders on Friday, October 10th, 2008. I guess they took pity on us for giving us a red-hot Ottawa team to open the Rock last year, so they went the complete opposite this year. I’ll take it!
The full schedule doesn’t get released until tomorrow, but other little tidbits are coming out as we speak. Following the Devils home opener, the boys will travel to Pittsburgh to partake in their opening night festivities the following evening, October 11th. The Red N’ Black will also be the road team for Dallas’ annual New Year’s Eve matchup on December 31st.
Remember, the schedule changes go into effect this year - only six games each against division opponents (down from eight); the same 40 games against non-division conference opponents, and 18 against the other conference - one either home or away against each team; three of those teams will be played both home and away. The Devils three home-and-away Western Conference opponents will be Chicago, Los Angeles, and Dallas.
I’ll be back tomorrow with the full schedule. And maybe even charts! Or, y’know, some sort of lame graphic. We’ll see.

Hey guys,
Chris here from Pittsburghpucktalk.com. I’m a studying writer and promotions assistant for ESPN Radio in Pittsburgh. I’ve started blogging about hockey, mainly the Penguins, and was wondering if you’d like to exchange links?
You guys obviously know what you’re doing and I really like your site. I’d appreciate any feedback and advice you have for me.
In the meantime, take care and keep up the good work. Only 74 days until the season starts!

So this is totally off topic but hockey related.. does anyone play the NHL video games for Xbox? The new one coming out has an online mode where you develop your own player and play with them on online teams competing with others around the world. Team 2ma anyone?! Embrace your nerdery and live out your shattered hockey dreams!

I’ve been considering an upgrade to PS3 or XBOX360 for awhile now. Hopefully I’ve enough saved by the time the next round of hockey games come out.

Its well worth it, Josh, if your a somewhat serious gamer/geek. Ive had friends ask “whos playing?” while i was in the middle of a game of NHL 08 for PS3, and they were like “holy shit! thats not real?!?” its that good.

Agreed. But get Xbox!

See, I’m leaning PS3 because my brother is on his third Xbox due to various manufacturing issues. But on the other hand, I’m sure Xbox’s online play is far superior to PS3s. So I don’t really know.
I’m still a few months from a decision anyways though. Thanks for the feedback!

Heyo!
Just wondering if you could throw a link up to pittsburghpucktalk.com? You see Pens, Flyers, Ranger and Devils are all in the top 6 in ESPN’s Power Rankings? Gonna be an awesome battle as always this season.
